“God was my Saviour” – Tenant narrates how he escaped death in collapse Lagos building
An inhabitant of the three-story working in Ebute Meta, Lagos, that fell on Sunday has portrayed how he almost saved demise in the catastrophe.
Engineer Adegoke Ogunbabi, who got away without injury while addressing correspondents on Monday, May 2, said he was snoozing in his room on the last floor while the structure imploded.
Ogunbabi, who has lived in the structure for a long time, asserted he didn’t surrender to fear and on second thought confided in God to save him, and Someone came to his assistance simply in time.”I was on my bed while the structure fell. I ordinarily practice since I had a spinal rope injury. God was my Savior. I dozed around 7pm. A neighbor called me however I didn’t get the call since I disdain aggravation while resting. Another person called me around 9.30pm. I was hearing some sound and seen that the structure was imploding.
“I was stripped. I didn’t engage dread. I was resolved that anything God wishes would occur. I was guaranteeing myself that I would be protected and God did it. Somebody acted the hero me”. He said.
Talking further, Ogunlabi unveiled that the property manager didn’t live in the structure and that he was disheartened by the calamity that killed his neighbors.
“I feel awful that certain individuals passed on, particularly a youngster called David. He generally played with me,” he added.The building situated on Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, fell around 9pm on Sunday, May 1, catching a huge number. As per reports, the structure was frail and bothered before it in the end gave way.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said the structure had been fixed for destruction because of it’s feeble state yet the tenants wouldn’t move.
